After a background in the Lisbon’s Academy of Fine-Arts, Master studies in Communication Design and Multimedia Design allowed him to apply creative processes, knowledge and aesthetics coming from the arts into industries directed to mass audiences, such as advertisement, media and entertainment. These experiences took place in several countries of Europe, inevitably providing the social and cultural diversity awareness Jorge was striving for.
Among others, Jorge’s corporate experiences in Design and Art Direction include Sony BMG (Norway), Telmedia-Audaxis (France/Belgium), Lisbon Gay Parade (Portugal), CIANT (Prague), ISCTE (Portugal). In the field of interactive media, Jorge was independently involved in the authoring of iTV and alternate reality gaming projects, exhibited on the FMX Festival (Stuttgart) and Cinekid Festival (Amsterdam).
Arrived to the Faculty of Industrial Design of the Eindhoven University of Technology in March 2007, Jorge was the Designer of the Communication and Marketing team of this Faculty until March 2008. He was in charge of the visual design of communication materials and the website, in regard of the University’s new corporate identity. Since then, Jorge has been involved in the participation of ID within the Dutch Design Week, currently managing external communication.
Now within the Designed Intelligence research group, Jorge is developing a PhD research in defining design guidelines for Responsive Environments, smart environments that provide extended possibilities for user interaction based on media, in a paradigm where mainstream contemporary communication is to be experienced, and not merely transmitted.
