Alex has a combined background in Computer Science and Robotics. After obtaining his Bachelor’s degree in his home country El Salvador, and working for the private sector, he decided to emigrate to Germany. There he completed a Master in Autonomous Systems at the University of Applied Sciences Bonn-Rhein- Sieg, while at the same time engaging in the european research project XPERO that dealt with robotic learning by experimentation. At the end of 2008 he was nominated by the Association of German Engineers (VDI) to the “VDI 2008 Best Master Thesis Award”, for his work on artificial surprise and prediction failure recognition using first-order logic. Currently he explores the possibilities for seamless communication and interaction of real robots and virtual worlds.
